FIA releases Italian GP starting grid

On Saturday evening, in light of all the potential grid penalties, the FIA releases the grid for Sunday’s race.

Max Verstappen, after qualifying second behind Charles Leclerc, was hit with a five-place penalty for adding a fresh internal combustion engine to his pool.

While Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton all took penalties after qualifying, Verstappen will still receive a net-five-place penalty by the FIA’s existing methodology, so he will line up seventh on the grid.

George Russell will start in second alongside Leclerc, followed by the two McLaren’s of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo on the second row of the grid.

Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso make up the third row of the grid.

F1 debutant Nyck de Vries, substituting for Alex Albon will start from the eighth position on the grid.

Carlos Sainz will start from 18th place, with Lewis Hamilton and Yuki Tsunoda following him.

The grid as it now stands is as follows:
