Red Bull-backed Liam Lawson to make another FP1 appearance with AlphaTauri at the Mexico City GP

Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson will make his second free practice outing of the 2022 season at the Mexico City Grand Prix, with AlphaTauri handing him another run in their F1 car.

Lawson made his Grand Prix weekend debut earlier in the campaign when he took over Pierre Gasly’s AT03 for the opening practice session at Spa-Francorchamps, having previously tested F1 machinery.

Now, the 20-year-old New Zealander will get another FP1 opportunity in place of Yuki Tsunoda at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend, fulfilling AlphaTauri’s rookie quota for the season.

In a bid to reach the F1 grid, Lawson is currently contesting his second season in the Formula 2 feeder series, with Sprint Race wins in Saudi Arabia, France and Belgium the highlights so far.
