Sainz set for 10-place grid penalty in France after taking new engine component

Meanwhile, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has taken his third turbocharger, third MGU-H, second energy store (ES) and second control electronics of the season in France – the maximum allocation he is allowed of each part before grid penalties are applied.

Team mate George Russell has taken a second ES and second CE, Zhou Guanyu has taken a second ES, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris have each been fitted with their fourth of eight allocated exhausts.
